Being a responsible tourism operator means that our baseline operations centre around the wellbeing of all of our staff, including the guides, porters, cooks and muleteers that we work with. As an ethical tour operator, we pay our staff well – frequently above the going rate – and provide annual health benefits to office staff and personal accident insurance for guides, porters, muleteers and chefs. We abide by all laws, and ensure that each trek departs with the right amount of porters, so that no one carries more than they should. This is all part of what it means to follow ethical tourism practices.
We care about building capacity in our staff – we want to see them flourish and excel in their chosen profession. We provide opportunities for all of our staff to further their education, whether that’s cooking classes for chefs; safety training for drivers; or English lessons.
We also run an annual training day where our staff receive instruction in:
This training day is also a wonderful opportunity to connect with our entire team and reflect on the year’s achievements.
