Huaran Weaving & Eco Tour 1D Itinerary

On the morning of our eco tour in the Sacred Valley, we travel about an hour and a half to where we will be greeted by the Munay Urpi weaving association. They will demonstrate spinning, warping and weaving, as well as dyeing yarn with natural plant dyes. Most of these plant dyes are collected locally, and you might even have the chance to help!

The weavers will dye a small amount of yarn in 2-3 different natural shades. Depending on your interest and available time, join the weavers on a short excursion to look at or collect dye plants as they are found in nature. After this Andean weaving demonstration, the group will serve a delicious home-cooked meal for lunch.

After lunch, our unique eco tour continues. We will travel about 20 minutes to Casita Huaran, a family-run organic farm and bed & breakfast. We’ll get a tour of their gorgeous property to learn about responsible travel and organic farming.

Later, we have a chance to help out with some chores, hike to the top of the hill, or just relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We spend the night here in comfortable beds, the perfect start to your trek!

The next morning we will enjoy a delicious organic breakfast before setting off on our Andean hike. This is a Peru eco tour like no other!

The highlight of the trip was the weaving tour, getting to learn about Incan culture and meet local families. Our guide Ofelia was fantastic, thoroughly answered all questions and the drivers were wonderful. Exceeded expectations.

We travelled Peru with our kids (6 and 8 YO) for 3 weeks. Apus Peru are rare example of personal community approach. Any experience you choose has CSR or sustainable aspect which is very liberating for a tourist. Just an example of the above, it is not very common to get lunch package in paper pack not plastic one!

Now more practical – we travelled with relatively small kids. The Apus Peru team was very helpful, tailored few things for us specifically and gave valuable advice.

We get to places where you normally do not go with “standard guides” like the weaving community in Huaran. Kids were excited. We had great guide with good English (not always the case) and we felt taken care of.
